Archaeological Heritage

Both Carlingford and Greenore bear Norse names, while it is claimed that Annagassan was the first Viking settlement in Ireland. Louth abbey was founded by monks who had fled inland from Viking raiders in coastal areas. No trace of a Viking presence remains.
