Megalithic Monuments

Newgrange in County Meath takes its name from its townland, which was once a 'grange' or monastic grain-growing farm of the mediaeval monastery of Mellifont in County Louth. Part of the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site of Br?B󩮮e falls within County Louth. There are many other Neolithic and bronze age tombs in the county, of which the most famous is probably Proleek dolmen. The Cooley Mountains are particularly rich in monuments, hence the priority focus of the Field Monuments Advisor?s work in this area.
